Hi! I’m Mrs. Myatt the Giraffe class lead teacher. Ms. Bhatia and I are excited to begin the school year with our new Giraffe friends. The Giraffe Class is a fun place to learn, play, and explore new things. We love books and poetry, so be prepared to be surrounded by all sorts of books and see how we will become authors and illustrators. Let the fun begin as we start our journey on the road to kindergarten!
Approximately 30 years ago I enrolled my daughter to Bethany Lutheran Preschool because of the warm, welcoming, and nurturing staff. I watched as my shy, hesitant child blossomed into a little girl who couldn’t wait to start her day with her friends and teachers. As a teacher, I want each Giraffe friend to experience what my child experienced. My first priority is for each child to feel loved and respected; to feel that their words and feelings are important. In my class, each child will learn that God loves them and so do I. My second priority is to provide a safe and nurturing environment to learn through structured play and open-ended activities. Children are naturally curious and my hope is to use their curiosity to ready them for being life-long learners and well-prepared kindergarteners.
This school year, I will begin my 27th year as a teacher at Bethany Lutheran Church and Preschool. Both my husband and I have lived in the Bucknell community for over 50 years. My husband and I grew up in this area and attended the local high school where we met. As our family started to grow, we wanted our four daughters to grow up in the same community and chose Bethany Lutheran to start that journey.
I began my early childhood education career working at a Montessori School where I was trained in the Montessori educational methods. I have had additional training and experience working with children with special needs through Fairfax County Public Schools. Children are special gifts from God and we all have something to learn from each other.
My name is Kshama Bhatia and I am the assistant in the Giraffe class. I love learning from kids' imaginations and trying to help them find themselves. I have been fortunate to work with wonderful teachers who guide me and challenge me at the same time. I make sure to keep up with new teaching methods and information.
I am happily married to my husband of 22 years with two beautiful daughters. My eldest daughter is in college studying environmental science and the younger one is in 11th grade; she enjoys marching band.
I hope all of my students feel the warmth of the staff as they enter Bethany, just as they feel that same warmth when they enter their own home.
